Melaka Zoo is one of Malaysia's largest zoos, set in a reserved forest at Ayer Keroh. The trees give the grounds welcome shade, and many of the animal enclosures feel more open and natural than the cramped cages older zoos are known for.
The zoo is a practical family break from Melaka's old-town sightseeing. On Fridays, Saturdays, school holidays, and the eve of public holidays, the Night Zoo usually opens in the evening, when the heat is lower and some animals are more active.
