Pitaka Taik

Compact manuscript library ruin in Mrauk U, built to protect Buddhist scriptures in thick stone walls.

Pitaka Taik is one of Mrauk U's smaller monuments, but it has a clear purpose behind its heavy walls. The old library was built to store Buddhist manuscripts, and its compact, fortified form makes sense in a city where sacred texts were treasures worth protecting.

It is best treated as part of a circuit through the palace area and nearby temples. The stop is brief, but it adds a useful layer to Mrauk U: not only stupas and shrines, but the infrastructure of scholarship that supported them.
