Sunrise Hill

Low Mrauk-U viewpoint used for dawn views over temple spires, mist, and the old Arakan landscape.

Sunrise Hill is one of the simple pleasures of Mrauk-U: a low viewpoint where the old temple landscape makes sense at dawn. In the right season, mist sits in the hollows and pagoda spires rise from fields and palms, giving the archaeological zone a softer mood than the hot middle of the day.

The hill is not a major monument in itself, so go for the view and the timing. Bring a torch if starting before first light, and check local conditions before wandering in the dark. It is a good first stop before moving on to the heavier temple sites such as Shite-thaung and Htukkanthein.
