Getting Around

Central Pyay is compact and easy to walk — Shwesandaw, the central market and the riverfront are all within fifteen minutes of each other. For the further pagodas and especially for Sri Ksetra, the standard options are a tuk-tuk for the half-day, a hired motorcycle taxi, or — if you are confident on Burmese roads — a rented bicycle from one of the central guesthouses.

A motorbike taxi to Sri Ksetra and back, with waiting time at the site, is the simplest arrangement and usually costs only a few thousand kyat. For the boat trip to Akauk Taung, ask at your hotel — the small boats leave from Hsin Mu Htaung jetty south of town and arrangements are made informally.
