Myanmar's most sacred Buddhist site and the defining image of Yangon. The central stupa is covered in gold and topped with thousands of diamonds and rubies; the complex surrounding it contains dozens of smaller stupas, shrines, and pavilions. Pilgrims come from all over Myanmar to pray here. Visit near sunset when the golden stupa catches the light. Allow two to three hours.
