The Chollima Statue is one of Pyongyang's defining monuments, a bronze worker and farmer riding a winged horse above Mansu Hill. It represents the Chollima movement, the speed-and-sacrifice campaign that became central to North Korean state imagery after the Korean War.
As with almost everything in Pyongyang, you visit within a guided itinerary and read the site through official symbolism. Even so, the statue is useful for understanding the visual language of the city: heroic scale, forward motion, and politics turned into urban form.
