Al-Hillah is the second Omani fort in the Buraimi area, a few kilometres south of the centre on the road to Mahdah. It is smaller than Al-Khandaq and less restored, but the walls and corner towers still stand and the structure is open to visit. Surrounding it are some of the older falaj-irrigated date plantations of the oasis.
The fort is rarely busy. There is no formal museum inside, but the building itself is interesting enough for travellers with a feel for traditional Omani architecture. Combine with a stop at the Buraimi camel souq nearby.
