Eating Out

Omani food itself is relatively simple — grilled fish and meat, rice, dates, cardamom-spiced coffee — and the best version is still home cooking, which is hard to find in restaurants. What you will find a lot of is Indian, Pakistani, Lebanese, and Turkish, thanks to Muscat's large expatriate population. The best kitchens tend to be in the five-star hotels (the Chedi especially) or the small independent places along Shatti Al Qurum and Al Mouj. For cheap and excellent, look for the shuwarma stands and Indian thali spots around Ruwi.
