The Mutrah Souk is the obvious place to start — frankincense, silver, pashminas, and khanjars in a warren of covered lanes behind the corniche. Bargaining is expected. For gold, Ruwi's gold souk has the best selection in the city, sold by weight at the London spot price plus a small mark-up. For contemporary shopping there are several large malls — Muscat Grand Mall, Oman Avenues Mall, and City Centre Muscat — stocking the usual international brands.
