Getting There

Muscat International Airport (MCT) is well connected to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Oman Air is the national carrier, with direct flights to London, Frankfurt, Paris, and major hubs across South and Southeast Asia. The airport is about 35 kilometres west of the main tourist areas; taxis are metered and the fare to Muttrah or Old Muscat runs around 10–15 OMR. Rideshare apps (Careem and local equivalents) are available and usually cheaper.

There is no train. Within Muscat, taxis and rideshare are the practical option for getting between the widely spread neighbourhoods — the city stretches along 60 kilometres of coast, and the distances between Old Muscat, Muttrah, Qurum, and the mosque are too far to walk. Rental cars are straightforward and open up the surrounding country for day trips. Public buses connect the main areas but are infrequent and slow. Intercity buses to Salalah and other Omani cities depart from the main bus station in Ruwi.
