Sohar's main point of interest is the fort, which anchors the town centre and houses a small but well-presented museum on local and Omani history. The Sinbad connection is the other selling point — a replica of Tim Severin's ship Sohar, which retraced an Arab sailing route to China in 1980–81, is displayed near the fishing harbour. The beaches north of town are clean and accessible. Beyond the fort and the seafront, Sohar is primarily a working industrial city rather than a tourist destination.
