The main fort overlooking Sur, formally known as Sunaysilah Castle. It sits on a rise above the town and has been well restored, with several towers, a central courtyard, and good views over the lagoon and surrounding date palms. Worth the short walk up from the market.

A story
Sunaysilah Castle was built in the 19th century to defend Sur against Wahhabi raids from the interior. Its position on a low hill gave defenders a clear line of sight across the flat approaches to the town.
