Sur's main sights are compact and walkable. The dhow-building yard on the lagoon shore is the unmissable one — timber hulls in various stages of construction, the smell of resin and fresh-cut wood, and craftsmen who may well let you look around if you ask politely. The Al-Ayjah and Sur forts face each other across the mouth of the lagoon, and both are in reasonable condition. The covered market in the town centre is a good place to pick up supplies or sit down to a cheap curry or fresh juice.
