Getting Around

The walled city is best explored on foot — the lanes are too narrow for anything bigger than a motorbike — and most of the major sights are within a kilometre or two of each other on and around the fort mound. For getting between the walled city and the Cantonment, autorickshaws are the workhorse. Negotiate the fare before getting in: Rs 200–300 for short hops, Rs 500 across town. Careem and inDrive both operate in Multan and remove the bargaining.

For longer distances the Multan Metrobus runs a single east-west route along the main corridor from the General Bus Stand through the Cantonment to Bahauddin Zakariya University. Tickets are cheap (Rs 30 flat fare) and it is the fastest way across the modern city. Cycle rickshaws still work the back lanes of the walled city; they are slow but useful if the heat is too much for walking.
