Multan has been a craft town for a thousand years and you can still buy the things it has always been famous for. The two essential local crafts are Multani blue pottery — vases, bowls and tiles in cobalt, turquoise and white, fired in the same kilns that supplied the city's mosque tile-work — and Multani khussa: brightly embroidered, sharp-pointed leather slippers that range from the everyday plain to extravagant wedding pairs with mirror-work and gold thread.

Both are made in small workshops in and around Chowk Bazaar and Hussain Agahi; buy direct from the maker where you can, or from the government PAK Crafts showroom on Abdali Road, which has fair prices and reliable quality. Sohan halwa in tins makes the standard edible souvenir. For more workaday shopping the Cantt Bazaar along Abdali Road is the modern department-store area, and the air-conditioned Mall of Multan has the usual international brands.
