The sprawling public market at the top end of Magsaysay Avenue is the social heart of Baguio's everyday life — covered halls filled with mountain produce that simply does not exist on the lowlands. Strawberries (in season from November to May), avocados, mountain rice, chayote, Cordilleran beans, mountain coffee from Sagada and Benguet.
The dry-goods section sells brass cookware, Cordilleran weavings (look for the geometric blankets from Mountain Province and the woven bags from Kalinga), wooden bowls, walking sticks, and the city's famous ube jam (purple yam preserve) in jars stacked in great pyramids.
A separate cluster of stalls handles peanut brittle, dried mango, and sweet preserves. The market is busiest on weekend mornings and feels genuinely Filipino — the tourism is incidental. Bring small bills and bargain politely.
