Taal Volcano is the dramatic centrepiece of the landscape south of Manila: a volcano island in Taal Lake, itself sitting inside a much larger volcanic caldera. The view from Tagaytay Ridge is the classic introduction, with lake, crater, and surrounding hills layered into one of the Philippines' most recognisable scenes.
Access rules change with volcanic activity, and hikes or boat trips may be restricted after eruptions or elevated alerts. Even when the island is closed, the viewpoints around Tagaytay and Cavite make the volcano worth planning around.
