When to Go

Silay has a tropical climate typical of Negros Occidental. The dry season runs from November through April, and this is the most comfortable time to walk the heritage district. January and February are the coolest months, with temperatures around 25–28°C and low humidity.

The wet season from June to October brings regular afternoon rain. This does not prevent visiting, since most of the attractions are indoors or under cover, but outdoor walking between the houses becomes uncomfortable during downpours. The rains are heaviest in August and September.

The Bacolaod MassKara Festival in October is the region's biggest celebration and falls within the wet season, but the whole Negros Occidental area is lively during that week. Silay itself hosts the Kansilay Festival in late April, celebrating the city's founding, with street dancing and cultural events centred on the plaza.
