Puerto Galera Town

The town of Puerto Galera itself — the poblacion around Muelle Port — is a pleasant, unhurried place that most visitors pass through quickly on their way to the beaches. It is worth spending an hour here. The bay is one of the most naturally sheltered deep-water anchorages in the Philippines, and the waterfront has a low-key charm: fishing boats, the occasional yacht, a cluster of local restaurants serving simple Filipino food. The Spanish colonial church on the hill above town dates to the 18th century and looks out over the bay.

The local market near the pier is a good place to pick up fresh produce and watch the town go about its business — a useful counterpoint to the more tourist-oriented scene at Sabang.
