Grand Central Terminal

The Grand Central Terminal on Diversion Road is one of the busiest bus and van terminals in southern Luzon — a vast, organised-chaos hub where coaches to Manila, Bicol, and every corner of Quezon Province depart around the clock. For most travellers it is the first and last thing they see of Lucena, but it's worth a moment's attention as a piece of living infrastructure.

The terminal runs with surprising efficiency given the volume of traffic it handles. Numbered bays are assigned by company and destination; touts outside compete loudly for passengers, but the bay system means you can generally ignore them and find your bus. A row of food stalls and small restaurants along the terminal perimeter serves the usual Filipino transit food — pansit, rice meals, and bags of local snacks for the road.

A story
The terminal's name — Grand Central — is a knowing nod to New York, but Lucena's version handles a distinctly provincial mix: coaches to Bicol sharing bays with jeepneys bound for the next barangay, and vendors selling coconut wine alongside bottled water for the long road south.
