Villa Escudero (20km south near Tiaong) is a working coconut plantation and heritage resort open to day visitors. The museum covers Philippine history and the independence movement; the waterfall restaurant serves a buffet lunch with feet in the river. Coconut plantation tours are available.
Mount Banahaw (30km southeast) is a dormant volcano with strong pilgrimage traditions among Filipinos who believe it has spiritual power. The trails through forest and past waterfalls are rewarding even for non-pilgrims; the summit is periodically closed for environmental rest. Base at Dolores or Lucban.
Anilao (55km south in Batangas) is one of the Philippines' premier diving destinations — rich reefs, good visibility, and a wide variety of marine life. A number of dive resorts operate on the coast and arrange dives. The long drive is worth it for serious divers.
Pagsanjan (30km north) has the Magdapio Falls, reached by a memorable bancas (dugout canoe) trip paddled up the Bumbungan River through a narrow gorge. The boatmen shoot the rapids on the return. One of the classic day trips from the Laguna region.
