Getting Around

Tacloban is small and flat enough that you can walk most of the downtown. For everything else, the city runs on jeepneys and tricycles. Jeepneys cost a few pesos for any ride within town — flag one down anywhere along Real Street and ask the driver or fare collector to drop you near your destination; people are friendly and used to helping out. Tricycles are useful for door-to-door rides, with a minimum fare of around PHP 10 inside the city. For a half-day tour of the main sights you can hire a tricycle by the hour for around PHP 100 — the drivers know the standard MacArthur, San Juanico Bridge, and Sto. Niño Shrine loop by heart.
