Andong is the spiritual home of two Korean foods: jjimdak (braised chicken with glass noodles) and Andong soju. The jjimdak restaurants are concentrated in Jjimdak Alley near the old market; the soju, brewed in the traditional distilled style rather than the industrially produced variety found everywhere else in Korea, is sold at traditional restaurants and a few specialty shops. The taste is smoother and higher-proof than standard Korean soju.
Beyond these local specialities, Andong has a good range of Korean food. Traditional hansik restaurants near the folk museum and the tourist areas serve set meals with many side dishes. The city is not strong on non-Korean options — you'll eat Korean here and be better off for it.
