When to Go

Autumn is the best time to visit Andong. October and early November bring the clearest skies, cool temperatures ideal for walking, and the hillsides around Hahoe and the Nakdong Valley turning amber and gold. The Andong Mask Dance Festival in late September to early October is the biggest cultural event of the year and draws large crowds.

Spring (April-May) is also excellent — mild weather and the cherry blossoms around the dam and along the riverbanks. Summer is hot and humid, with heavy rain possible in July and August. Winter is cold but dry, and the traditional architecture under snow has its own beauty. Many of the outlying sites see fewer visitors in winter, which has its advantages.
