The Daegu National Museum covers the archaeology and cultural history of the Gyeongbuk region from prehistoric times through the Joseon period. The collection includes Bronze Age artefacts, Gaya-period ceramics and metalwork, Buddhist sculptures, and an extensive Joseon section with paintings, ritual objects, and documentary materials. The Gaya section is particularly worth attention — the Gaya confederacy occupied much of the Gyeongnam/Gyeongbuk region from the 1st to 6th centuries CE and produced remarkable ironwork and horse trappings that were influential across East Asia.
The museum building, designed around a large traditional courtyard, is competently presented with English-language labels throughout. It sits in the southern part of the city, about 30 minutes from the centre by metro. Admission is free.
