The Taichung Confucius Temple is a postwar (1976) reconstruction in the classical Song dynasty style, set in a walled compound on the northern edge of the old city. The complex follows the traditional layout — a series of courtyards leading to the main Dacheng Hall, with the customary halls flanking the sides.
It is quiet by the standards of Taiwanese temples, with no incense burning and a sober museum-like atmosphere. The Confucius Birthday Ceremony on 28 September is the only time it gets busy.
