Getting There

Taichung is on the main north-south corridor of Taiwan. The High-Speed Rail (HSR) station, Wurih, is in the southern suburbs about ten kilometres from the centre; trains from Taipei take an hour, and from Kaohsiung an hour and ten minutes, every ten to fifteen minutes. A free shuttle bus and the metro link the HSR station to central Taichung.

The conventional Taiwan Rail (TRA) station is the old colonial-period red-brick building in the centre, useful for slower services to towns along the coast and the eastern mountains. Long-distance buses run from the bus station next to the TRA station.

Taichung International Airport (RMQ) handles regional Asian routes and limited cross-Strait flights; most international visitors fly in to Taipei Taoyuan or Kaohsiung and take the HSR.
