Taichung Martyrs' Shrine

The Taichung Martyrs' Shrine sits next to the Confucius Temple and is built in the same Song dynasty palace style. It is dedicated to the soldiers of the Republic of China who died in the wars of the early twentieth century — the 1911 Revolution, the wars against the warlords, the Sino-Japanese War, and the Chinese Civil War.

The ceremonial guard changes hourly at the front gate, in a slow and disciplined drill modelled on the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial in Taipei. The grounds are quiet and well-kept. Free entry.
