Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine

Former Japanese-era Shinto shrine preserved as a rare wooden ceremonial complex in Taoyuan.

Taoyuan Martyrs' Shrine is one of Taiwan's more unusual preserved Japanese-era religious complexes. Built in Shinto style and later repurposed, it keeps wooden halls, stone lanterns, and a ceremonial layout that feels very different from most Taiwanese temples.

The site is calm, photogenic, and historically useful, especially if you are interested in the island's Japanese colonial period. It is a short visit, but a strong one by Taoyuan standards.
