Taoyuan is the location of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), which handles the majority of Taiwan's international flights. The airport is not in Taoyuan city proper but in the Dayuan district to the north. From the airport to Taoyuan city takes about 20 minutes by taxi or by the Airport MRT, which connects the airport to Taoyuan HSR station and onward to Taipei. From Taipei, Taoyuan is 30–40 minutes by Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR) or about an hour by regular train. The HSR station is outside the city centre; a free shuttle bus connects it to the main downtown area.
