Trang has a strong food culture shaped by its Chinese-Peranakan heritage and its proximity to the sea. The speciality of the city is roast pork — khao muu daeng (red pork rice) is served at shophouses throughout the old town, and the local version is reliably excellent. Dim sum is available in the Chinese quarter early in the morning, particularly around the Trang Clock Tower area. The night market near the train station is the best place to sample local dishes in the evening.
On the coast, fresh seafood dominates. The local clam (hawy thapao) is worth seeking out — it's harvested at Hat Pakmeng and served in waterfront restaurants during the season (October to February). Crab, prawns, and whole fish grilled over charcoal are the standards at beachside restaurants along the Trang coast.
