Ko Larn (Coral Island) is the most popular day trip — speedboats depart from Bali Hai pier. Nong Nooch Tropical Garden (15km south) is another easy half-day. Further afield, the Erawan National Park with its seven-tiered waterfall is about 3 hours northwest, best reached by hire car. The Khao Khieo Open Zoo at Sri Racha, 30km north, is one of the better open-air zoos in Thailand with a large aviary covering over 100 acres.
