Nonthaburi Pier

The Nonthaburi Pier (pier N30) is the main gateway to Nonthaburi by river, a handsome wooden structure with a clock tower that serves the Chao Phraya Express Boat. Step off the orange-flag boat and you find yourself at a busy local market, surrounded by food stalls selling fruit, grilled meats, and noodle dishes.

The pier area is worth an hour in itself: the market, the clock tower, and the short ferry crossing to the temples on the opposite bank all start here. From the pier, Wat Chalerm Phra Kiet is a short ferry ride across the river. The area around the pier retains a provincial riverside character that contrasts with the Bangkok metropolis visible just downriver. Take the Chao Phraya Express from Chang Pier or Tha Tien in Bangkok — the last stop north.

A story
The Nonthaburi pier (N30) was for decades the northern terminus of the Chao Phraya Express Boat service, the main public river transport of Bangkok. Before the MRT Purple Line opened in 2016, arriving here by boat was the standard way for Bangkokians to reach the province. The pier building — a wooden structure with a large clock tower built in the provincial government style — is one of the most photographed landmarks along the entire Chao Phraya.
