Morning Market

Mae Sariang's morning market runs from before dawn until about 9am in a covered hall a block back from the river. It is one of the more colourful in the north — a real cross-section of the surrounding hill country, with Karen, Lawa, and Shan vendors selling forest produce, wild greens, freshwater fish, and squares of fermented soy.

The food stalls at the entrance do good rice soup and the local sai ua sausage. By mid-morning the stallholders are packing up, so come early. There is a second, smaller evening market near Wat Si Bunruang that comes alive around sunset.
