The Pai Walking Street occupies the main road through the centre of town from dusk until late, transforming the narrow street into a night market. Stalls sell the usual combination of traveller clothing, handmade jewellery, handicrafts, and hill tribe textiles alongside Thai food, fruit shakes, and grilled items. The atmosphere is relaxed and the crowd is a genuine mix of Thai domestic tourists and international travellers.
The walking street runs every night of the week, which makes Pai unusual among Thai towns where such markets are typically weekend-only affairs. Quality of goods varies but the textiles, particularly the hill tribe weaving from the surrounding area, are worth looking at seriously. The food section at the eastern end of the street has some of the cheapest and most reliable eating in town.
