Pranburi

Low-key Thai Gulf town south of Hua Hin, known for mangroves, fishing villages, and long quiet beaches.

Pranburi is the quieter answer to Hua Hin, 25 km farther down Thailand's upper Gulf coast. The town itself sits slightly inland on the railway and main road, while the coast around Pak Nam Pran has fishing boats, seafood restaurants, and a long, open beach without the resort-town bustle.

The best reason to stop is Pran Buri Forest Park, where a boardwalk threads through mangroves between the river mouth and the sea. It is a small protected area, but it gives the coast a different rhythm from the hotel strips north of here: birds in the channels, crab holes in the mud, and fishing boats moving slowly through the estuary.

South of Pak Nam Pran, Khao Kalok closes the beach with a limestone headland. Come midweek and Pranburi feels almost sleepy; come on a Thai holiday weekend and the beach road fills with families eating grilled squid and renting bicycles. That balance is its charm.

Pranburi works well as a stop between Hua Hin and Prachuap Khiri Khan, or as a base if you want a few quiet beach days without leaving the railway line.

Guide

Getting Around

The town, railway station, river mouth, and beach are spread out, so walking is only useful once you are in one area. A bicycle works along the coast road, while a motorbike or local taxi is better for linking town, Pran Buri Forest Park, and Khao Kalok.

Guide

Getting There

Trains on the southern line stop at Pran Buri Railway Station, though many travellers arrive by road from Hua Hin. Minivans and buses along the Bangkok-Hua Hin-Prachuap Khiri Khan corridor can drop you in town, but you will need a songthaew, taxi, or rented motorbike to reach Pak Nam Pran and the beach.
