Burmali Minare Mosque

The Burmali Minare (Spiral Minaret) Mosque takes its name from the unusual spiral fluting that decorates its minaret — a distinctive design that makes it instantly recognisable among Amasya's many historical buildings. The mosque dates from the 13th century, making it one of the older Seljuk-period religious buildings in the city. The main structure has been rebuilt and modified several times over the centuries, but the minaret has kept its original form.

It was beneath the foundations of this mosque complex that the seven Ilkhanate mummies now in the Amasya Museum were discovered in 1930. A visit here is a natural companion to the museum — you can see the place of discovery, then walk to the museum to see the mummies themselves. The mosque is active and visitors should dress appropriately.
