Amasya's historical centre is small enough to walk. From the riverfront to the Büyük Ağa Medresesi at the eastern end of the old town is about a kilometre; from there to the Farhad and Shirin Monument is another 4 km by road. The castle and the rock tombs require a climb or a short drive on roads that branch off the main river road.
Taxis are available and inexpensive for the short distances involved. There is no metro or tram; local minibuses serve the surrounding villages but are of limited use for sightseeing. Renting a bicycle is possible and makes sense for the flat riverside section, though the castle approach is too steep to ride.
