Norman Stone's compact history of Turkey cuts from the Seljuks through the Ottoman Empire to Atatürk and the republic in under 200 pages, without ever losing the reader. It is particularly good on the Ottoman period that shaped Antalya's architecture and on the wars and upheavals of 1914–1923 that remade the coast.
A useful primer before visiting any of the Turkish Mediterranean's layered history. Stone was a famously combative historian and the book has opinions as well as facts — which makes it more readable than most surveys.
