Yivli Minaret Mosque

The Yivli Minaret is Antalya's most recognisable landmark — a tall, elegant 13th-century Seljuk tower whose fluted brick shaft is decorated with geometric tile panels in deep blue. It rises at the top of the old town, visible from the harbour and from much of the city below.

The attached mosque complex (the Yivli Minaret Mosque) is still in use. You can walk around the exterior at any time; entrance to the mosque itself is for worshippers during prayer times. The plaza in front is one of the better vantage points in the old town for taking in the tower's full height.

A story
The Yivli Minare (Fluted Minaret) was built by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I in the early 13th century. The tower's eight fluted sections, faced in dark-blue and turquoise tiles, made it instantly recognisable and it has been the symbol of Antalya ever since. The mosque attached to it was built on the foundations of a Byzantine church.
