Day Trips

Dalaman is a gateway, and the best of the region lies in the surrounding towns. Rent a car or catch a dolmus (shared minibus) from the bus station — the coast and hills are full of day trip options.

Dalyan — 24 km

An environmentally protected area famous for the endangered loggerhead turtles that nest on its shores. The rock tombs of Kaunos overlook the river, the mud baths are a must, and the Dalyan Delta is excellent for birdwatching — storks, cranes, kingfishers, and sparrowhawks. The Saturday market is good for fresh produce and souvenirs.

Fethiye — 52 km

Built on the ruins of ancient Telmessos, Fethiye is rich in Lycian history. The rock tombs carved into the cliffs are the highlight — try to see them illuminated at night. A Roman amphitheatre sits near the marina, which is a pleasant spot for coffee and people-watching. The Tuesday market is the largest in the area. Scuba diving and boat trips are popular.

Marmaris — 89 km

The nightlife capital of the region, with bars, clubs, and restaurants running late into the night along Bar Street. By day, boat trips explore the surrounding bays and coves. Two water parks — AquaDream and Atlantis — are good for families. The castle ruins are worth visiting in the morning before the heat builds.

Ephesus — 249 km

A longer drive at nearly four hours, but Ephesus is the best-preserved ancient city on the Mediterranean. The Temple of Artemis, the Gate of Hercules, and the Church of the Virgin Mary are all remarkable. Well worth the effort if you have a full day.
