İzzet Paşa Mosque

Late Ottoman mosque on the main boulevard of modern Elazığ

The İzzet Paşa Mosque is the principal mosque of the modern city, completed in 1965 in a deliberately Ottoman-revivalist style — a single great dome flanked by two slim pencil minarets. It sits on Gazi Caddesi, the main commercial street, and is the obvious landmark of the centre.

The interior is calm and well-lit, with a fine carpet pattern and an inscribed mihrab. It's a good place to step off the boulevard for ten minutes; non-Muslim visitors are welcome outside prayer times.
