The Reşadiye Mosque presides over the central square of the modern city, named for Sultan Mehmed V Reşad who commissioned it in the early 1910s. Built in a late-Ottoman style with a single large dome and slender minarets, it was one of the last imperial mosques erected before the collapse of the empire.
It is the main Friday mosque for downtown Eskişehir and busy at prayer times. Outside those hours it is a useful orientation point — most of the city's hotels and restaurants are within a short walk — and a quiet, cool place to step into on a hot afternoon.
