Marmaris National Park

A 33,000-hectare wedge of forested mountains, hidden coves, and small islands wrapping the Marmaris bay from the east round to the south — declared a national park in 1996 and the single largest piece of unspoiled landscape in this stretch of coast. The hills are covered in Calabrian pine, the gulleys hold sweet-gum forests, and the coastline drops sharply into clear water with dozens of small beaches reachable only by boat.

The park crisscrossed by walking and mountain-biking trails of varying difficulty; the Lycian Way long-distance path picks up further east. For most travellers it is the green backdrop behind the boat trips rather than a destination in itself — but a half-day hike up one of the marked trails behind town is a useful break from the marina.
