Narlıkuyu is a small village on Turkey's Mediterranean coast between Mersin and Silifke. It would be easy to mistake it for another seafood stop on the D400, but the limestone hills behind the bay hold some of the most memorable sights on this part of the Cilician coast.
The main reason to come is Heaven and Hell, a pair of collapsed caves with a stairway down into a green chasm. Nearby are Asthma Cave, the tiny Narlıkuyu Museum, and the cliff reliefs of Adamkayalar.
Narlıkuyu also pairs naturally with Kızkalesi, 5 km along the coast, where a castle sits offshore like a stone ship. With a car, this is a very good day of caves, ruins, sea views, and late lunch by the cold freshwater-fed bay.
