Tekirdağ is about 130 km west of Istanbul on the E84 road through Thrace. Buses from Istanbul's main bus terminals (Esenler and Büyükçekmece) run frequently throughout the day and take around 2 hours. There is no direct rail connection to Istanbul. Driving from Istanbul is straightforward — the E84 passes through Çorlu and continues west to Tekirdağ. The city is a natural stop on the road toward Edirne and the Greek or Bulgarian border.
