Al Noor Mosque

Al Noor Mosque sits on the Al Majaz peninsula on the Khalid Lagoon, its white domes and minarets reflected in the water. Built in 2005 in a classical Ottoman style, it is one of Sharjah's most photographed buildings and one of the most welcoming to non-Muslim visitors in the UAE.

Guided tours for non-Muslims take place on Monday and Thursday mornings — you can check current times directly with the mosque. Visitors are welcomed warmly and given an introduction to Islamic prayer practice, the meaning of the mosque's architecture, and basic beliefs. The setting on the lagoon makes for excellent photography at golden hour, and the surrounding waterfront is pleasant for an evening walk.

A story
Al Noor Mosque runs one of the UAE's better mosque open-door programmes, welcoming non-Muslim visitors for guided tours several mornings per week. The tours are designed to explain Islamic practice and answer questions rather than simply show the architecture — a reflection of the emirate's consistent investment in cross-cultural dialogue.
