Tashkent has the only proper bar scene in Uzbekistan. The new town has Western-style cafes, wine bars, beer pubs, and a handful of cocktail places. Lonely-night bars cluster around the Hotel Uzbekistan and Amir Timur Square. The Russian-speaking middle class drinks late; locals less so. Cold beer is the default order; Uzbek wine is mostly sweet and best avoided.
