Tashkent's sights split into two cities. The old town around Chorsu Bazaar and the Hazrati Imam Complex is small but holds the city's medieval Islamic heritage — madrasas, mausoleums, and the famous seventh-century Othman Quran. The new town, rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake, is wide boulevards, Soviet monuments, parks, and the stunning marble-and-chandelier metro stations.
Two or three full days is enough. Don't miss the metro — a one-dollar ride is the cheapest sightseeing on the continent.
