Evangelical Lutheran Church

19th-century church built for Tashkent's German Lutheran community

The Evangelical Lutheran Church is a small but distinctive reminder of Tashkent's German community. Built in 1899, it survived the Soviet period under several different uses, including as a warehouse, opera studio, and concert hall, before being returned to worship in the 1990s.

It is not a regular museum, so visitors usually see it from the outside unless attending a service or concert. Even so, the red-brick building gives a different note to Tashkent's mostly Soviet and post-Soviet cityscape.
